Russian Orthodox Church in Singapore December 20, 2019
On December 20th, 2019, Her Royal Highness Princess of Thailand Maha Chakri Sirindhorn visited St. Nicholas Church in Bangkok (Thailand) to honor the greatest relic of the Christian world – part of the Belt of the Most Holy Theotokos, which, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, was brought to the eparchy of Thailand for the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Orthodox Church in the Kingdom of Thailand.
Her Royal Highness was met at the holy gates of the church complex by the Patriarchal Exarch of Southeast Asia, Most Reverend Metropolitan Sergiy, the head of the Singapore and Thailand eparchies.
The following clergy and officials also participated in the meeting: Most Reverend Archbishop of Korea Feofan; the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Thailand E.Y. Tomikhin with his wife; Secretary of the eparchy of Thailand Archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin), Secretary of the Patriarchal Exarchate hieromonk Pitirim (Dondenko); other clergy of the Exarchate; members of the Royal House and aristocracy.
In his welcoming address, the Patriarchal Exarch conveyed welcoming words from the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill and expressed his gratitude to the Royal House for its attention to and patronage of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Kingdom of Thailand. Metropolitan Sergiy also told the present about the great Christian relic – part of the Belt of the Most Holy Theotokos. He emphasized that the fact that this holy relic was brought to Southeast Asia for the first time in two thousand years makes it a truly historical event. The Metropolitan assured the Royal House that the Russian Orthodox Church will continue to spread peace among the people of Thailand, contribute to the prosperity of the country, and pray for the Royal House.
At the end of the prayer chants, Metropolitan Sergiy, in a gesture of gratitude with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, handed Her Royal Highness the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos.
