November 29 – December 3, 2019 the Patriarchal Exarch of Southeast Asia, Metropolitan of Singapore and Southeast Asia Sergiy at the head of the delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church visited the Republic of Korea.
On November 29, at the Incheon Airport, Metropolitan Sergiy and the accompanying delegation were met by the Archbishop of Korea Feofan and the clergy of the Resurrection parish in Seoul.
On November 30, the members of the delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church accompanied by diplomats of the Russian Embassy in South Korea and the assistant to the military attache of Russia in the Republic of Korea, a 3rd-rank Captain, S. A. Balazhigitov visited Incheon, where the Archbishop of Korea Feofan performed a memorial service for the perished soldiers of the Russian fleet. The service was held at the monument commemorating the sailors of the “Varyag” cruiser. The monument was erected on St. Petersburg Square in relation to the Chepulmo raid (now Incheon) in 2004, on the 100th anniversary of the heroic feat of the “Varyag” cruiser and the “Koreets” gunboat.
The guests from Russia were warmly welcomed by the Honorary Consul General of Russia in Incheon Chon Hon.
On December 1, Metropolitan of Singapore and Southeast Asia, Sergiy, accompanied by the Archbishop of Korea Feofan and the Head of the Administrative Secretariat of the Moscow Patriarchate, Bishop Pavlovo- Posadsky Foma served Divine Liturgy in the house church of the Resurrection parish.
The Archpastors were joined in their service by the secretary of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Southeast Asia, hieromonk Pitirim (Dondenko); the Dean of the First District of Vladivostok, Archpriest Dimitri Fedorin; the Administrator of the Korean Mission of the Russian Church Outside Russia, Archpriest Pavel Kang; clerics of the Resurrection parish in Seoul, hieromonk Pavel (Choi) and deacon John Li.
The bishops’ service was also attended by an employee of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, D. I. Petrovsky; employees of Moscow Patriarchate, S.S. Suntsov and A.V. Topchilo; the Assistant of the Patriarchal Exarch of Southeast Asia, N.F. Sokolov; numerous Russian compatriots and Orthodox Christian Koreans. Many of the present received the Holy Mysteries of Christ.
During its visit to Seoul, the Russian Orthodox Church delegation had a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to South Korea, A. B. Kulick. The guests also had meetings with the Director of the European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, Kim Phil Woo; the Head of the Department of External Relations of the apparatus of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, Park Hee-Suk; the Head of the Department of External Relations of Seoul City Hall, Ms. Lee Hye Gyeong, and other officials of the Republic of Korea.
