Russian Orthodox Church in Singapore 22.12.2019
On December 19, 2019, the day of commemorating Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker and Archbishop of Myra in Lycia, Patriarchal Exarch of Southeast Asia, Metropolitan of Singapore and Southeast Asia Sergiy, the administrator of the diocese of Thailand, led the Divine Liturgy in the church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Bangkok, the Kingdom of Thailand.
The service was preceded by the ceremony of the arrival of the reliquary containing a part of the Belt of the Most Holy Theotokos, which, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia KIRILL, was brought to the diocese of Thailand as part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Orthodox Church in Thailand.
After the meeting of the Holy relic, Metropolitan Sergiy performed the Great consecration of the side chapel of St. Nicholas Church in honor of St. Sergiy, Abbot of Radonezh.
In serving the Liturgy, the Patriarchal Exarch was joined by: His Eminence Archbishop Feofan; Secretary of the Diocese of Thailand, Archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin); Secretary of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Southeast Asia, hieromonk Pitirim (Dondenko); Rector of the Church of the Archangel Michael in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Abbot Pavel (Khokhlov); Rector of All Saints Church in Pattaya, archpriest Daniel Vanna; and diocesan clergy.
The service was attended by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Thailand E.Y. Tomikhin and representatives of the diplomatic corps of friendly states.
During the pure litany, prayers for the unity of the Orthodox Church and its protection from divisions and schisms were offered, which was followed by the Metropolitan’s prayer for peace in Ukraine.
At the end of the Liturgy, Archimandrite Oleg thanked the Patriarchal Exarch, Metropolitan of Singapore and Southeast Asia Sergiy for leading the service on the day of the patronal feast. He also handed the Metropolitan the icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary painted by Thai believers in memory of the event.
The Patriarchal Exarch congratulated all the worshipers with the patronal feast and thanked them for their joint prayers. The Exarch extended his special thanks to Archimandrite Oleg for his zealous work and commendable service in the Kingdom of Thailand. In memory of his participation in the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Orthodox Chruch in Thailand, the Patriarchal Exarch donated to St. Nicholas Church as a gift a Eucharistic set. He also handed the secretary of the diocese a decorated cross in memory of the event.
With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia KIRILL, Metropolitan Sergiy presented church awards to the clergy and especially hardworking laity of the diocese on the occasion of the festivities.
On the same day, in Bangkok, the Patriarchal Exarch visited the Institute of Child Health, which is under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. The archpastor was shown around the children’s intensive care unit and talked with the children being treated there and their parents, wishing them a speedy recovery. Then, the metropolitan talked with the medical staff and thanked them for their daily feat and sacrificial service.
